Four new red light and speed cameras activated

Motorists are advised that four new red light and speed cameras have been activated today, Tuesday, 10 December, at high-priority locations.

Motorists are advised that four new red light and speed cameras have been activated today, Tuesday, 10 December, at high-priority locations.

Cameras have been installed and activated at the following locations:

  • Elder Smith Road, Maxwell Road and Main North Road intersection, Parafield, monitoring southeast bound traffic;
  • Tapleys Hill Road and Old Port Road intersection, Royal Park, near Alberton Primary School, monitoring southbound traffic;
  • Beach Road pedestrian activated crossing, Morphett Vale, near Calvary Lutheran Primary School, monitoring eastbound traffic;
  • Ascot Avenue pedestrian activated crossing, Vale Park, near Vale Park Primary School, monitoring southeast bound traffic.

These cameras have been switched on as part of the State Government’s commitment to install 10 new red light and speed cameras at high-priority locations, which were reviewed as part of the 2018 Speed Camera Audit.

The selection criteria to identify these locations included analysis of crash history, traffic volumes, vehicle types, speed limits, road design, and the presence of vulnerable road users.

Seven of the 10 locations chosen are near schools.

The new cameras have been accompanied by new “red light and speed camera ahead” signs, which form part of the South Australian Government’s roll-out of larger signage to ensure greater awareness of fixed camera locations.

The Speed Camera Audit report is available at www.dpti.sa.gov.au/towardszerotogether/safer_speeds/Speed_Camera_Audit.

Further information about speed camera locations and the camera site selection process can be found at www.speedcameras.sa.gov.au.
