Less crashes with longer right turn lanes

9 July 2014

The right turn lane will be extended at multiple locations across metropolitan Adelaide to improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians.

Right turn lanes will be extended on:

  • Salisbury Highway (southern approach) for right movements into Gawler Street, Salisbury and installing overhead traffic signals for vehicles turning right.
  • Henley Beach Road onto Airport Road, Brooklyn Park and changing the traffic phrasing signal for vehicles turning right.
  • Fullarton Road into Grant Avenue, Rose Park and installing traffic signals for vehicles turning right.
  • Reynell Road turning onto Panalatinga Road, Woodcroft on both eastern and western approaches and installing traffic signals for vehicles turning right.
  • Commercial Road into Main Street and Tiller Drive, Seaford and installing traffic signals for vehicles turning right.

The project aims to improve safety for right turning vehicles at the signalised junctions by fully controlling right turn movements and improving protection for pedestrians.

With this change, the potential for right turn crashes reduces significantly.

Signs and line marking will indicate the changed arrangements.

Works have started and are scheduled to be completed late August 2014.

The changes are part of South Australia’s Road Safety Strategy 2020-Towards Zero Together.
