Safety works on state roads

Works on the South Eastern Freeway, Mallee Highway and in the Fleurieu (Callington to Goolwa Road and Main South Road) to improve the road surface quality begin this weekend.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) is undertaking the works as follows:

South Eastern Freeway

  • starting on Monday, 22 September 2014
  • a total of 1.2 kilometres of surfacing works at 3 locations on the South Eastern Freeway approximately 5 kilometres east of White Hill
  • work will be undertaken between 7.00 am and 5.30 pm each day of the week
  • the road remains open to traffic and minor lane restrictions in place
  • a 25 km/h speed restriction will apply when workers are on site, with speed restrictions in place at other times until line marking is complete
  • expected to be completed by end of September 2014, weather permitting
  • the works are being carried out at a cost of $54,000 as part of the Federal Government’s Periodic Road Maintenance Program.

The Fleurieu

  • starting on Tuesday, 23 September 2014
  • surfacing works on the Callington to Goolwa Road, various sections approximately 17 kilometres south of Callington for 660 metres
  • surfacing works on Main South Road, approximately 14 kilometres south of Normanville for 285 metres
  • work will be undertaken between 7.00 am and 5.30 pm each day of the week
  • the road remains open to traffic and minor lane restrictions in place
  • a 25 km/h speed restriction will apply when workers are on site, with speed restrictions in place at other times until line marking is complete
  • expected to be completed by early of October 2014, weather permitting
  • the works are being carried out at a cost of $115,000 as part of the State Government’s Periodic Road Maintenance Program.

Mallee Highway

  • starts on Sunday, 21 September 2014
  • a total of 1.2 kilometres of surfacing works on the Mallee Highway approximately 2 kilometres east of the Dukes Highway
  • work will be undertaken between 7.00 am and 5.30 pm each day of the week
  • the road remains open to traffic and minor lane restrictions in place
  • a 25 km/h speed restriction will apply when workers are on site, with speed restrictions in place at other times until line marking is complete
  • expected to be completed by mid September 2014, weather permitting
  • the works are being carried out at a cost of $42,000 as part of the State Government’s Periodic Road Maintenance Program.

The new line marking will require the temporary full closure of the Northern Connector to all southbound traffic, and the temporary partial closure to northbound traffic, next weekend.

REMINDER: Temporary closure of intersection of South Road and Regency Road for bridge move

As part of the Regency Road to Pym Street Project there will be a temporary partial closure of the South Road and Regency Road intersection from 5am Monday, 4 January, to 5am Monday, 11 January, weather permitting.

Final asphalt for Darlington Upgrade Project

As part of the Darlington Upgrade Project, night and weekend works will be undertaken in the lowered motorway and on South Road to install the final layer of asphalt and line marking.
