Upgrade to busy intersection

7 November 2014

A safety upgrade to the Findon Road and Trimmer Parade intersection has started.

Road Safety Minister Tony Piccolo said that the intersection was identified because of the crash history and traffic volume.

“Between 2009 and 2013 there were a total of 42 crashes at this location,” Mr Piccolo said. “Two resulted in serious injuries, nine in minor injuries whilst 31 crashes resulted in property damage."

Improvements to the intersection will include:

  • Extending the right turn lane on the Findon Road north approach and controlling right turn movement with signals
  • Installing an additional right turn lane on Trimmer Parade allowing two lanes of traffic to turn on Findon Road
  • Installing overhead traffic signals on Findon Road to improve visibility for motorists
  • Installation of bicycle push buttons on Trimmer Parade and Fife Street
  • Left turn movements changed to high efficiency movement.

The upgrade is a $240,000 investment via the Motor Accident Commission Road Safety Fund.

Motor Accident Commission Board Chairman Mr Roger Cook AM said he was pleased that an allocation from the Road Safety Fund would be used reduce crashes at the busy intersection.

Works will happen between 9:00 am and 3:30pm, Monday to Friday with road users reminded to follow the direction of traffic management staff and road signage.

The works are expected to be completed by early 2015.
