Stay safe and connected during the Tour

14 January 2015

Find out about road closures and public transport detours, and choose a safe spot to watch the action during the Santos Tour Down Under.

Roads will be closed and detour signs will be in place at all start and finish locations of the regional Stages 1 to 5.

A rolling road closure system will be in place for the remainder of the race routes on Stages 1 to 5, meaning that roads will be closed temporarily to allow the race to pass by and reopened after all riders, the race convoy and Police escort have safely passed by.

Rolling road closures protect public safety as well as minimising disruption at the event. For more information about road closures visit www.tourdownunder.com.au.

DPTI encourages race spectators to choose a safe spot to watch the action, preferably somewhere they can be seen by passing vehicles. Spectator’s vehicles should be parked well off the road in a place that doesn’t obstruct visibility or property access.

The public are also reminded to take extra care in areas affected by the recent bushfires, and to be aware of the hazards posed by trees damaged in the fires. Trees that are situated away from roads could also be hazardous and caution is advised.

Adelaide Metro bus services will be subject to detours during the Santos Tour Down Under, and details are available on www.adelaidemetro.com.au.

For those thinking of getting on a bike and joining in the spirit of the Tour Down Under, DPTI’s Cycle Instead Journey Planner is a great way to plan your journey. Featuring all on and off road bike lanes and paths from Victor Harbor to the Barossa and some of the Adelaide Hills, Cycle Instead can show you how to get where you want to go and even the estimated travel time. To access the Cycle Instead Journey Planner go to http://maps.sa.gov.au/cycleinstead/.
