Mr Tim Snigg from Mount Gambier is the first recipient of a new road safety award which recognises the excellent work of community road safety group members.

The Community Road Safety Group Individual Service Award was presented to Mr Snigg as part of a recent two-day forum in Adelaide.

Tim joined the Mount Gambier and District Road Safety Group in 2005 representing the Limestone Coast Ulysses Club as their designated Road Safety Officer. Since then he has been part of many road safety initiatives in the South East, including as a key member of the team who helped guide the South East Road Safety Strategy.

His first campaign was the 'See and be Seen, Headlights On' program which has been rolled out throughout the South East and other regions. 

He also created a 'Braking for Kangaroos' program after his daughter was involved in a crash when she swerved her car to avoid hitting a kangaroo. He conducted a survey in his community and found that few drivers knew how to react when facing a similar situation.

Now the Chair of the Mount Gambier and Districts Road Safety Group, Tim addresses service clubs on the issue of regional road safety. 

Tim was nominated for the award by Mr Rob Forgan, the Regional Community Road Safety Officer at the South East Local Government Association.
