This is the second year the Adelaide Oval has joined iconic landmarks across the country turning yellow to promote road safety.

Lighting the landmarks not only symbolises the commitment to protecting vulnerable road users but also remembering those who have been injured or killed in road crashes. With 1200 Australians killed and 30,000 seriously injured, the impact of road trauma on our Australian community is enormous.

This year’s Yellow Ribbon campaign also supports the United Nations theme of 'Children and Road Safety'. Every year around the world, more than 180,000 children die from road traffic crashes.

The State Government is asking people to display a yellow ribbon on their vehicles to show their support.

Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week is an initiative of Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH).

SARAH President Mr Peter Frazer said a key message of Road Safety Week was everyone had a responsibility to actively look after each other on our roads and highways. "And by flying a yellow ribbon, you are not only showing that you ‘Drive So Others Survive!’ but that you stand in solidarity with those tens of thousand of Australians affected by road trauma,” Mr Frazer said.

SARAH was founded by Peter Frazer following the tragic death of his daughter Sarah in New South Wales in February 2012. Ms Frazer and a tow truck driver were killed after being hit by a passing truck whilst waiting in an emergency lane following a breakdown.
