Almost $2m to improve road safety and quality in metropolitan Adelaide

2 February 2016

Diagonal Road in Glenelg East and Lower Portrush Road in Marden will be upgraded in February as part of the State Government’s commitment to road infrastructure renewal.

More than a kilometre of Diagonal Road between Cliff Street and Oaklands Road will be resurfaced.

This $700,000 project will improve the quality of the road surface of this section of Diagonal Road which carries more than 20,000 vehicles a day.

Works are also set to resume on the final stage of a $1 million upgrade to Regency Road which carries about 29,000 vehicles per day.

Both projects are funded through the Government’s $110 million roads stimulus package announced in the 2015/16 State Budget.

This investment will fund more than 185 road upgrades over the forward estimates, creating more than 300 jobs.

About 200 metres of Lower Portrush Road on the approach to the Payneham Road intersection at Marden will also be resurfaced.

$150,000 will spent on removing grooves caused by heavy vehicles and give all road users a smoother ride on this section of Lower Portrush Road, which carries about 30,000 vehicles a day.

Together the Government is investing a total of $532 million over the next four years with the Budget stimulus and ongoing road maintenance and safety funding.

Resurfacing works on Regency Road between Hampstead and Main North roads will begin on Monday.

The Lower Portrush Road works are scheduled to start on February 5 and the Diagonal Road works are due to start on February 9.

Motorists are advised that lane and speed limit restrictions will be in place at each location.
