Works commence on Stage 2 safety upgrade of Bute to Kulpara Road

25 February 2016

The second stage of a $9 million upgrade of a major rural road connecting the upper Yorke Peninsula towns of Bute and Kulpara will begin in March.

About nine kilometres of the Bute to Kulpara Road will be reconstructed in the $2.8 million second stage of the three-year project.

Another four kilometres has already been upgraded in the first stage of the project last year.

In all, 20 kilometres of the rural arterial road is being resealed over the three years of the project.

The works include shoulder widening, pavement reconstruction and full width resealing.

The project will support about seven full-time equivalent jobs during construction, which is expected to commence in March 2016.

The tender, which was awarded to Fulton Hogan, was conducted in line with the State Government’s Industry Participation Policy.

Weather permitting, the pavement, resealing and shoulder widening works will be completed by June. A final seal will be applied later in the year, before the end of 2016.
